PERSONAL INTRODUCTION AND HONORS

Chen Wu received his B.S. in Electronic Engineering from National Taiwan University (NTU), M.S. in Computer Science from NTU, and Ph.D. in Computer Science from Carnegie-Mellon University, in 1982, 1984 and 1993, respectively. He is currently a professor of the Department of Computer Science at National Chiao Tung University. He serves as the editor-in-chief of ICGA Journal and an associate editor in the IEEE Transactions on Games. He also served as the president of the Taiwanese Association for Artificial Intelligence in 2015-2017, and as chairs and committee in over 30 academic conferences and organizations, including Games Technical Committee of IEEE Computational Intelligence Society.

His research interests include computer games, deep/reinforcement learning and volunteer computing, and his research achievements include: (a) presented a new game, called Connect6, a kind of six-in-a-row game, in 2005; (b) developed a game-playing program for Go, named CGI, winning the first in the preliminary and the second in the final of the World Computer Go Contest held in China, in 2017; and the latest CGI version presented in AAAI 2020 is state-of-the-art using 20 residual blocks; (c) developed the first 2048 program that have ever reached the 65536-tile; (d) developed a method, presented in AAAI 2019, that can dynamically adjust strengths for Go and potentially for many other games like chess, shogi, etc.

Computer games (mainly related to AI games, such as board games, card games, puzzle games etc.)

Machine learning for computer games and mathematical optimization.

Cloud computing (including volunteer computing clouds for computer games).

Mobile gaming (including platforms for iOS/Android games).
